Statistics goes to show the average blogger, meaning 81% of the total blogging population, does not make $100. If you really think about that statement, it speaks volumes whether you’re utilizing Google Analytics, AdSense, etc. or not. Some blog because it is a hobby, some for no particular purpose, and there are those who are professional bloggers. Hell, there are bloggers who, like myself, find it as a therapeutic part of my day. Whether the reasons behind your purpose for becoming a blogger, there’s no denying we, in some small, perhaps innocent, sense that we carry a narcissistic side.
And that is okay!
I’ll admit that I myself have not heard of the Liebster Award until recently – when Jen from Inside of Jen’s Head nominated me and others for the Liebster Award. Truth be told, there wasn’t a specific goal I wrote down marking how many followers or readers acquired by a specific time-frame. As I’ve mentioned before, blogging is more a therapeutic part of my day, focusing rather on myself but also having a voice that is heard. For those who do have discernible goals similar or equal to the aforementioned, there’s nothing wrong with that approach.
With that said, I have been nominated by the lovely Jen from Inside Jen’s Head.
So, what is the Liebster Award?
The award is a way to be discovered but also to connect and support the blogging community. A great idea in promoting your own blog and others. Originally it was given out to blogs with less than 2000 readers but this has slowly lowed as the reward has gained popularity. It is now only 200 readers or less.
From what I understand, I must answer questions provided by the individual who gave the nomination. From there, nominate five to eleven other bloggers. I have my work cut out for me with both the questions and finding other amazing, talented bloggers to nominate.
Here. We. Go.
What is your go to activity to relieve stress?
My go-to activity for relieving stress involves rather a few connected activities rather than the singular. Within fifteen miles of my home in Surprise, Arizona, there are two mountain ranges where I hike almost every weekend. Sad to say, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve done any hiking due to, ironically, depression and other matters.
What color best describes your personality and why?
While I don’t believe in a singular God, I love this quote which I feel which color best describes my personality:
I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it. – Alice Walker – The Color Purple
The Color Purple is authored by Alice Walker – an American Fiction writer. The Color Purple won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction as well as the National Book Award for Fiction. It was later adapted into a film and musical under the same name.
What is your favorite song/band?
This is a more difficult question as I have many favorites, however. If I had to choose one that rises above all the rest, it would be The Pillows (Japan). To say their sound is unique does not do it justice. It’s almost nigh impossible fitting them into a specific category or structure of music. Hypnotic, incandescent, pure, etc. are just a few words I would describe their sound. Whenever I’m having a shit day, they’re the first band I run to, put the headphones in and just slip away into another universe. In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m listening to The Pillows.
What is your least favorite food?
Oh, man. It’s hard for me to turn away food since I’m a bit of a foodie but there is a bit of what I would absolutely turn away without hesitation. First off, I’m mild? lactose intolerant. Anything less than a pure white cheese or dairy product, I’m unable to handle; the exception would be Almond Milk. However, my least favorite food is…well…shit, I can’t think of one right now. But perhaps I’ll come back to it by the time this post is completed.
If you could be any animal in the world (including those that are already extinct) what would you choose to be?
Wolf. Hands down. They are the most stunningly beautiful creatures on the face of this Earth. They are the most fierce, cunning, and loyal of creatures as well. Personality tests compared to that of the Wolf, you would find many similarities. I used to say to my Wife, whether reincarnation is real or not, as long there is an afterlife, be anything you want to be, then I would be a Wolf. Out of the endless possibilities, the Wolf wins. I believe this conversation was sparked by Robin Williams’ movie, What Dreams May Come. It’s profound and life-altering.
If you had three wishes, what would they be?
Not necessarily in this order, but:
- End World Hunger
- Ability To Fly
- End Global Hate
What is your worst fear?
What is your happiest memory?
March 20th, 2010 – The day I married my Wife. We had what is called a “Handfasting”. Essentially, it is a ceremony which predates the modern Wedding ceremonies we’ve come to know today. We based our hand-fasting around its origins, specifically, Celtic origins. We felt it proper since we follow a certain ancient Celtic belief system as well as what our dominant heritages were. I, being 90% Celtic (Irish, Scottish, English, Welsh) and her 70% Celtic (Irish). If you would like to know more about hand-fastings, click here!
What do you love most about yourself?
Honestly, there isn’t much, if anything at all, that I love about myself. Sorry.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Blogging, for me, provides a sense of therapy. It allows me to also relieve stress if I’m having a wee bit of shite day. It’s that simple really. Well, not entirely that simple but it is what it is. Blogging, I feel, helps to connect to others of like-mind. We can share a wide array of stories of others or about ourselves. Or perhaps we only wish to share our hobbies and the like. Either way, it’s a fascinating world.
If you had the undivided attention of the entire world what would you say?
Since the dawn of mankind, we have become locked in a global war that has been waged for thousands upon thousands of years. And in the current state, it is as though there is no end in sight. We’re a race divided by beliefs, race, religion, color, sex, gender, and more. We slaughter humanists, idealists, brilliant thinkers. We’ve slaughtered entire generations over two men’s blind indifference to his fellow man. We are a species defined by causality.
We have leaders across the globe who serve only their self-interests rather than the interests of their people. But we’re not much better as we dine on our expensive, fancy meals, compared to that of other worlds. Are we not ourselves indifferent to our fellow man(kind)? We speak the words activism and assist. We speak the words acceptance and love. But we don’t love ourselves. It is easier to retreat inside the world our own making rather than practice what we preach.
It is our global initiative, our global responsibility, our sense of duty that we must all reach out to each other. We must support one another in all times, not just times of crises. Our community is the Earth Community. Isn’t it about time we become community activists?
Edit: At the time of the writing above, it was around 1230pm-ish where I stopped writing; it is 4:30 pm now. I had to jump out for a meeting with the Department of Veterans Workforce Connection office. Now that I’m back, I can continue this neat little post. Well, first off, I’m still unemployed – (W2) wise anyway. Currently staffed as 1099 with a web studio based in Oregon but literally, no work has come through in the last three weeks; freelance work has been sadistically slow. Basically, I am more than broke and have no work coming right now.
Here is my list of bloggers I would like to showcase and nominate for the Liebster Award:
There they are folks. I haven’t been around for WordPress Blogs long enough to have a more extensive list, sad to say. But I’m sure I can self-guarantee my list will grow shortly – more rapidly, even. Thank you all who have nominated me for the Liebster Award. I am quite humbled by this nomination and I look forward to seeing you all around here on my blog.
